The NGO Forum for NGOs operating in northern Syria was founded in 2012 as an independent, voluntary coordinating body composed of non-governmental and non-profit organizations (NGOs) actively engaged in leading cross border humanitarian responses to the Syria crisis (in and from Turkey). The NGO Forum is the only mixed NGO coordination platform of Syrian and international NGOs operating cross border with members contributing to over 50% of operations (direct and indirect) inside Syria. NGO Forum members cover a wide geographical area, work across multiple lines of control including members that operates in north west Syria out from Jordan, and support vulnerable individuals, families and communities in Syria. The NGO Forum supports the established thematic and sectoral working groups/clusters to address inter-agency assessment gaps, and members cover all humanitarian sectors (education, health, food security, protection, shelter, WASH, basic assistance, livelihoods, social stability, and economic recovery). In partnership with Hand in Hand, GOAL will support the capacity of the North West Syria NGO Forum for a more coordinated and needs-based response. Hand in Hand for Aid and Development (HiHFAD), a UK registered Syria charity that has been at the forefront of providing humanitarian aid in Syria since the beginning of the conflict in 2011. HiHFAD employs more than 600 members of staff, including over 500 members on the ground in Syria. The organization operates two offices in Turkey, as well as an international presence in Germany, Geneva, London and Birmingham. HiHFAD currently holds the Secretariat role of the North West Syria NGO Forum - a local humanitarian response coordination mechanism comprised of more than 70 Syrian and INGOs (members and observers) and established in 2012 to facilitate information sharing and coordination activities for humanitarian response in northern Syria.
